Scottsdale City Council Candidate Raoul Zubia Delivers His Closing Message to Voters

With the November elections six days away, Scottsdale City Council Candidate Raoul Zubia met with Blog for Arizona to deliver his closing message to voters in that area.

Please see his message below.

Please tell the readers why it is important for the voters in your city council district to vote and turn out in this election.

“Scottsdale has always been very good when it comes to doing things to move us forward.

Two things I always point to are the Preserve and the Greenbelt. Those two things have been where the citizens and the leaders have come together to move the city forward and to make sure that we’re doing what is needed for the citizens of Scottsdale. For 75 years, the Scottsdale City Council was doing great work on water, preservation, and responsible growth. Up until a couple of years ago, we were moving in the right direction.

However, with the last council election, we ended up with a 4-3 majority, and this majority has literally done things that have taken away the voice of our citizens. They are making political decisions instead of common-sense decisions, and they are undermining our long-term security.

It is important that I get elected so that we balance out this council, and we can make sure that instead of a 4-3 bloc where the extremists can come in and vote on any issue and do it any way they want, it now becomes a 3-3, which means we will be forced to start talking to each other and actually start working with each other.

So, bottom line, get me in. That allows me to balance out the council so that we can stop this bloc, and we can restore the voice of the citizens.

Please tell the readers and the voters why you are the candidate that can bring that change and restoration.

I’m a lifelong Scottsdale resident, born and raised in South Scottsdale. I attended Coronado High School, so that should give you a pretty good idea of my roots. Scottsdale has always been my home, and I care deeply about its future.

I spent 30 years in banking, and for the past 20 years, I’ve dedicated much of my time to serving on boards and working with organizations focused on improving the lives of Scottsdale residents.

One of those efforts was the Protect and Preserve Scottsdale Task Force, where I served as Vice Chair. Most people know this as Proposition 490. In fact, we received a decision from the appellate court on that measure just today. The proposition was upheld.

Proposition 490 allows us to dedicate a portion of our sales tax revenue to maintaining and protecting Scottsdale’s parks and Preserve. Some of our parks are more than 60 years old, stretching from the southernmost parts of our city to the far north. These are places our residents and families have enjoyed for generations, and they deserve the maintenance, improvements, and upgrades necessary to serve future generations.

The McDowell Sonoran Preserve is one of Scottsdale’s greatest treasures. This funding will help us protect its natural beauty while strengthening public safety, including adding rescue capabilities to better protect those who visit. We want the preserve to remain the pristine, world-class destination it was always intended to be.

And that brings me to why this election is so important.

If you haven’t already voted, I urge you to get out and make your voice heard. And I’m asking you to vote for just one candidate: Raoul Zubia.

Why? Because we need to end the chaos, confusion, and gridlock that have prevented our City Council from moving Scottsdale forward.

We need a council that works together, puts residents first, and focuses on what truly matters: preserving the character of our city, protecting the quality of life that makes Scottsdale so desirable, and ensuring that our community continues to thrive by securing our water.

Most importantly, we need to give Scottsdale residents their voice back. Too many people feel they are no longer being heard at City Hall. I want to change that. I want residents to know their concerns matter, their opinions count, and their elected officials are working for them.

That’s why I’m asking you to vote for only one candidate.

By casting your vote for me alone, you help strengthen my chances of earning a seat on the council while limiting the opportunity for the current voting bloc to maintain its majority. That would help restore balance, encourage meaningful discussion, and bring a fresh perspective to the decisions affecting our city.

Scottsdale has been my home my entire life. I know where we’ve been, I know what makes this city special, and I believe strongly in where we can go.

Let’s restore balance. Let’s give residents their voice back. And let’s keep Scottsdale moving forward.

Vote for one. Vote for Raoul Zubia.
