The Green Reflecting Pool is a Funny and Important Story, But Other Events Also Deserve the Same Amount of Attention

The recent coverage of the Reflecting Pool by the Lincoln Memorial is funny, and another demonstration of Donald Trump destroying something he touches.

However, while this episode is another example of Trump’s ineptitude, mismanagement, environmental destruction, and endangering living organisms (a duck died,) there are other events happening that merit more news coverage than this.

For example, Puerto Rico is having a water shortage because its infrastructure is in need of urgent repair. People in that United States territory are paying private companies $300 for a tub of water.

Over 770,000 children are now facing hunger because Trump and MAGA Republican policies in the Big Billionaire First Bill cut off assistance to those children on SNAP food assistance, so the top one percent can get tax cuts.

American livestock is threatened by a screwworm epidemic, threatening billions of dollars in agricultural economic activity, because Donald Trump allowed Elon Musk’s DOGE penny pinchers to cut $15 million in monitoring.

Donald Trump, his Judenrat consigliere on immigration, Stephen Miller, and their other White Nationalist loyalists are apparently going after DACA-Dreamer recipients by using the bureaucratic grinder to slowwalk their renewal applications so they can stay in the country and work here.

Trump’s war on science continues at conferences, where police security at a June event sponsored by the American Diabetes Association removed five people, some of them scheduled speakers, for distributing copies of an editorial critical of Trump’s anti-science agenda.

Not to be outdone, watch and read Robert ‘Brain Worm’ Kennedy give his assessment of people with autism last week.

“This is an individual tragedy as well. Autism destroys families, and more importantly, it destroys our greatest resource, which are our children. These are children who should not be suffering like this.

These are kids who, many of them, were fully functional and regressed because of some environmental exposure into autism when they were two years old. And these are kids who will never pay taxes, they’ll never hold a job, they’ll never play baseball, they’ll never write a poem, they’ll never go out on a date, many of them will never use a toilet unassisted. This is the person in charge of Health and Human Services for the country, and he is using his position to be a mouthpiece for vaccine denialism and Long Termist Eugenics dribble.

One glimmer of good news. The courts have stopped Trump’s attempts to rewrite history exhibits at the National Parks.

They, thanks to a George W. Bush appointee, have also halted his authoritarian attempt to go after Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey because of their opposition to Trump’s ICE Gestapo criminal activities that resulted in the murder of two innocent Americans last winter.

Again.

Not saying the reflecting pool story is not important, but there are other events, like the ones introduced above and many others like coming to a sustainable peace treaty with Iran that does not give away the American Store, the war in Ukraine, the recent Ebola crisis in Africa, and Benjamin Netanyahu, through his Trump like ineptness and neo-fascist-imperialist agenda, making Israel a pariah state, that merit an equal amount, if not more attention.
