Verdict expected Tuesday in Sen. John Huppenthal’s case

A verdict is expected today in the case of Sen. John Huppenthal, R-Chandler, who is facing criminal misdemeanor changes stemming from the removal of a 2008 campaign sign targeting him. Verdict expected in case involving Ariz. lawmaker Justice of the Peace Pro Tem Daniel Washburn for the Maricopa County court in Chandler told lawyers in the case involving Sen. Huppenthal that he will issue a verdict late Tuesday afternoon.

The charges stem from a 2008 Election Day confrontation between Huppenthal and Democrat activist Ruth Levin, who said the senator cut down one of the party's signs.

If you are wondering whether a conviction will further complicate the budget mess, it will not. Sen. Huppenthal will file an appeal and he may remain in office pending a final decision of the appeal.

UPDATE: Sen. Huppenthal's attorney asked for and got the verdict reading moved to Thursday.
