A Great 24 Hours for the Harris/Walz Campaign Thanks to Republican Governors, Liz Cheney, and Bidenomics

If the Harris/Walz Ticket wins on November 5, 2024, observers may point to this weekend as one of the focal points that helped steer them to victory because of four domestic events that turned in their favor.

First, while Donald Trump was doing his two favorite things: whining and lying about the federal response to Hurricane Helene, falsely claiming that the Biden/Harris Administration was not talking to the Republican Governors of the states affected and not providing resources because the funds had been shifted to deal with illegal migrants, those same Republican Governors, in public press conferences, were commending the same Biden/Harris Administration for their proactiveness and quick response to the natural disasters afflicting their states.

Even Trump’s Vice Presidential pick, JD Vance, who was with Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, praised the swiftness of the federal response.

Of course, President Joe Biden did not mince words, calling Mr. Trump a liar for his false comments in the Oval Office after the twice impeached former President’s claim that Biden had not spoken with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.

The second domestic event was Liz Cheney holding a joint event with Vice President Harris in Ripon, Wisconsin yesterday and publicly embracing her Presidential Candidacy, putting country over party and calling Mr. Trump a danger to the Constitution and the Country.

Among the Vice President’s unifying remarks at the event were:

“While we may not see eye-to-eye on every issue, and you may not have supported a Democrat for President before, we both love our country and revere our democratic ideals. We both believe in the nobility of public service. And we both know that our oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States is a sacred oath. One that must always be honored and must never be violated.”

“I take seriously my pledge to be a President for all Americans.”

We can chart a New Way Forward – not as members of any one party, but as Americans.”

The third event was reported after the Harris/Cheney event. It was the ending of the strike between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) union and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX.)

A prolonged strike from the dockworkers could have jeopardized supply chain transports and increased prices (inflation.)

Commenting on the end of the strike, President Biden, whose staff helped facilitate the end of the strike, said:

“Today’s tentative agreement on a record wage and an extension of the collective bargaining process represents critical progress towards a strong contract…I want to thank the union workers, the carriers, and the port operators for acting patriotically to reopen our ports and ensure the availability of critical supplies for Hurricane Helene recovery and rebuilding. Collective bargaining works, and it is critical to building a stronger economy from the middle out and the bottom up.”

Vice President Harris commented in a White House statement:

“Tonight the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance came together to reach a tentative agreement that reopens the East Coast and Gulf ports, and I want to applaud all involved for their efforts. This step indicates progress toward a strong contract and represents the power of collective bargaining. As I have said, this is about fairness – and our economy works best when workers share in record profits. Dockworkers deserve a fair share for their hard work getting essential goods out to communities across America.”

The final event is the October jobs report which saw the unemployment rate go down, 254,000 jobs created, and wages went up.

In a statement on the October jobs report, President Biden offered:

“Today, we received good news for American workers and families with more than 250,000 new jobs in September and unemployment back down at 4.1%. With today’s report, we’ve created 16 million jobs, unemployment remains low, and wages are growing faster than prices. Under my Administration, unemployment has been the lowest in 50 years, a record 19 million new businesses have been created, and inflation and interest rates are falling. And we’re seeing the power of collective bargaining to lift up workers’ wages—including the progress made by dockworkers on record wages with carriers, and port operators and the reopening of East Coast and Gulf ports.”

“Make no mistake: We have more to do to lower costs and expand opportunity. Congress should pass our plan to build millions of new homes, expand prescription drug price caps, empower workers and protect the right to organize, and cut taxes for hardworking families. Congressional Republicans have a different plan—more giant tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations, ending the Affordable Care Act, undermining workers by cutting overtime and making it harder to organize, and imposing a national sales tax that would raise costs by nearly $4,000 per year. While they put billionaires first, we’ll keep fighting to grow the middle class.”

Chalk up two more victories for Bidenomics whose economic and social justice philosophies towards unions and policies like the American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act have represented a sharp turn, in contrast to the failed policies of the Trump Administration, in the right direction for the Country and the American People.

To quote Vice President Harris “We are not going back” to the misery, devastation, and incompetence of the Trump years.

If history is any guide, voters should choose the side that will build on the Biden/Harris track record and chart their New Way Forward, Opportunity Economy, and commitment to American security and the Constitution.

The country will not get that with a second Trump Administration.
