Arizona Democratic Congressional Candidates and Incumbents Offer Their Views on the MAGA Republican Budget that Robs from the Poor to Give to the Rich

House Republicans, despite members of their own caucus that want a crueler product, are moving forward with their plans to pass a big ugly budget and tax bill that, among other disgusting features, starves children, robs health benefits from the working and middle class, guts Head Start, and makes polluting great again.

The Arizona Democratic Congressional House Candidates, some of whom are running to replace MAGA supporting Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert, offered their views to Blog for Arizona on the reverse Robin Hood budget the Republicans are trying to squeeze through both the lower and upper chambers of Congress.

Deja Foxx, one of the major Democrats running to succeed Raul Grijalva in Arizona House Congressional District (CD) Seven commented:

“Like so many kids in our community, I grew up on Medicaid. One in four Arizonans rely on it for their healthcare right now. If the Republican budget passes, it would be a disaster for working people across this district. The bottom line is that we deserve a leader who can stand up, take on the fight, and win so our families don’t see our health care coverage slashed, prices skyrocket, and less access to the care they deserve.”

Running to succeed her father in the district he represented for 22 years, Adelita Grijalva stated:

This bill shows the broken lies and promises from the Republican Party. They promised to help to lower costs and to help working families but their big priority bill does the exact opposite. It cuts health care programs, food programs, and other vital programs that everyday Americans rely on.”

This bill does nothing to make child care, housing, or groceries more affordable. Instead it will cause families in Arizona’s Seventh Congressional District to pay more, while the wealthiest reap a staggering $5 trillion in tax benefits. Republicans are showing their true colors and can’t even get it passed by their own budget committee because they don’t agree on how much harm to inflict. I stand with my fellow Arizonans in sharing our outrage and demanding this bill be entirely abandoned.”

Marlene Galán-Woods, running again to replace David Schweikert in Arizona CD One, relayed:

Congressional Republicans continue to prove their incompetence and cruelty. This Republican budget that Schweikert supports would literally take food out of the mouths of children and kick millions of people from their health insurance. The bill would also add trillions to the deficit all to line the pockets of billionaires. The hypocrisy from Schweikert, a self proclaimed deficit hawk is beyond comprehension.”

JoAnna Mendoza, running to replace Juan Ciscomani in Arizona CD Six conveyed:

“As the budget wasn’t able to make it through committee today, it is apparent that Juan Ciscomani will need to bend the knee to the extreme right which will likely result in even more extensive cuts to the VA and Medicaid, leaving tens of thousands of veterans and children out to dry in AZ-06.”

“I bet we will get another nice, signed letter saying that he won’t let more cuts to either program happen, but then go back on his word once again – leaving our working families behind.”

The third major Democrat running in CD Seven, Daniel Hernandez offered:

Republicans will take food off of kids’ plates and take away working people’s healthcare in order to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. Growing up, there were times when my family relied on public assistance to get by and put food on the table. I’ll fight with everything I have to stop this disastrous reconciliation bill, lower costs for regular people, and to protect Arizona families.”

Arizona’s Democratic Incumbent Congressional Delegation also expressed their views on the repressive Trump/MAGA Budget and Tariff Policies.

Arizona CD Three Representative Yassamin Ansari said in excerpts from the below social media posting that:

“…This week, Republicans are holding markups to discuss the various portions of the reconciliation bill that they are trying to cram through to pass their very harmful agenda. Democrats in a number of committees have been using these opportunities to offer so many amendments to push back against harmful policies like defunding Planned Parenthood, ripping away Medicaid and rolling back critical climate protections. It’s crazy. During these markups, Republicans have basically refused to engage entirely. They refuse to defend their positions. They refused to answer questions…This week, one of the most important markups was taking place in the House Energy and Commerce committee. This committee oversees Health Care, and this committee in particular was trying to cut 880 billion dollars from health care experts have said that it is impossible to touch 880 billion dollars without ripping away Medicaid, and this could impact over 80 million people across the United States in Arizona’s Third District, more than 355, 000 people who rely on access are at risk of losing their health care. This includes more than 175, 000 kids and more than 22, 000 seniors. That’s insaneMedicaid is a Lifeline for so many people in our communities as our clinics and places like Planned Parenthood that so many of us rely on. Republicans have a clear agenda, and it is not about making sure that Americans have the resources that they need to live and survive. Republicans are right now working to Medicaid for millions of Americans, also that they can pay for massive tax cuts for corporate CEOs and wealthy billionaire donors. As Republicans continue to push across this harmful budget, Democrats will do everything in our power to fight back and stop their agenda. It’s why I’m a proud co-sponsor of Medicare for All, because I believe in affordable, accessible Health Care for everyone. And it’s why I will not stop fighting for Arizonans.”

Along with Gila River Indian Nation Governor Stephen Lewis, Arizona CD Four Representative Greg Stanton also called attention to the threatening cuts on Medicaid and its impact on tribal nations and the Grand Canyon State’s rural communities, saying:

We are in the fight of our lives...Many people in Arizona rely on the Medicaid systems that can see their primary care physician. Many of our major hospital health care centers, rely on the Medicaid system to provide important Health Care jobs. But it’s probably not as well known is the impact of Medicaid Cuts to the community and to Native American Health…a hundred thousand Native Americans,…and we are very concerned about the impact on rural hospitals and hospitals, like the one you may have to close if this it goes through. Some of the issues are Stark and important, and we gotta fight this.”

Arizona Senator Mark Kelly posted:

Senator Ruben Gallego, whose wife is expecting their second child, railed against Trump’s tariffs on baby strollers and car seats, calling them Trump’s “Baby Tax.”
