In a spirit of bipartisanship and highlighting the results of good government, Republican Mayor John Giles gave Biden/Harris Administration Infrastructure Tsar Mitch Landrieu a tour of a revitalized Old Mesa this afternoon.

Mr. Giles gave the former New Orleans Mayor a tour of major sites from Center Street to McDonald between Pepper and Main in Mesa’s historic district, touting the partnership between the federal government and local communities through programs like the American Rescue Plan (ARA) and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Among the city features the Mayor pointed out that have benefited from these programs were an electric vehicle charging station at Mesa City Plaza, a refurbished Federal building on McDonald, new shade along Main Street, and the Nile Coffee Shop, an establishment harmed by both Light Rail construction and COVID that has rebounded and thrived thanks to funding assistance from the ARA.

The Mayor also pointed out the success of the Light Rail system that has a line from Mesa to Phoenix and highlighted the transformation of the historic center, highlighted by both the Mesa Arts Center and a new Arizona State University Sidney Poitier Film School.

Commenting on this visit, Mayor Landrieu stressed the importance of local-federal partnerships combined with private investments is “a good thing between the federal government and the Mayor.”

He also stressed the benefits of bipartisanship, saying, “The President (Biden) is always about bipartisanship. The Mayor has been a great partner with us.”

Later in a Biden for Arizona Press Release, both men highlighted how President Biden, unlike Mr. Trump, has delivered on his promises to rebuild America’s infrastructure.

Mayor Landrieu conveyed: “Landmark laws like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act — signed into law by Joe Biden — are delivering for communities all across the country, allowing companies to invest billions of dollars in the clean energy industries of the future. While Donald Trump broke promises to communities all across America, President Biden has delivered for Arizonans.”

Mayor Giles relayed, “President Biden has kept his promises on infrastructure. The Biden administration has been successfully laying the foundation for a more connected, resilient, and prosperous Arizona and our city is seeing the difference.”

Mr. Landrieu earlier paid a stop in Phoenix highlighting the Biden/Harris infrastructure achievements with Mayor Kate Gallego.

Tomorrow, he will be in Tucson touting infrastructure accomplishments there with Mayor Regina Romero.
