‘The Donald’ makes my point: calls for deportation of all undocumented immigrants

Donald Trump has a lot of company in the Tea-Publican Party, which has become the modern day equivalent of the xenophobic, nativist anti-immigrant Know Nothing Party of the 19th Century. I keep telling you, the GOP is now the Mass Deportation Party.

As if to make my point, “The Donald” went there yesterday and explicitly called for mass deportations.

Greg Sargent writes, Donald Trump and the Cattle Car Caucus:

Well, it was bound to happen eventually: Donald Trump has finally made a genuinely useful contribution to the public debate.

In an interview with CNN, Trump went farther than I’ve seen any Republican presidential candidate go on immigration, explicitly pledging to carry out the mass deportation of all undocumented immigrants:

Trump said Wednesday in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash that as president he would deport all undocumented immigrants and then allow the “good ones” to reenter the country through an “expedited process” and live in the U.S. legally, though not as citizens.

John McCain’s ‘illegitimate’ son, Little Lindsey Graham, came to the defense of dear old “Dad” on an appearance on ABC’s This Week on Sunday. Graham: Trump ‘appealing to the dark side’ of politics:

“I think he’s appealing to the dark side of American politics. He is not offering solutions to hard, complicated problems. He is basically selling fear and prejudice,” Graham said.

So basically “The Donald” is doing what the conservative media entertainment complex does on a daily basis. This is its business model.

And Little Lindsey Graham, who is always clutching his pearls and screaming “We’re all gonna die!” before collapsing on his fainting couch, is hardly someone who can criticize Trump for selling fear. That’s his shtick.

This new poll finding, courtesy of CNN, is not all that surprising, but it is very illuminating of the demographic challenges the GOP faces right now: A big majority of Republicans believes that the government’s main focus on immigration should be not just on stopping the flow of illegal immigrants, but also on deporting those already here.

GOP Latino Voter Outreach: House votes to punish sanctuary cities

How’s that GOP Latino Voter Outreach program working out for ya? This is not going to go down well for you.

And what is up with Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, yet again?

The Hill reports, House votes to punish sanctuary cities:

House Republicans passed legislation on Thursday that would deny federal funds to sanctuary cities. [Map: Sanctuary Cities, Counties and States | Center for Immigration Studies]

The bill, passed 241-179, would withhold certain federal law enforcement grants to cities that have policies designed to shelter illegal immigrants from deportation.

Sanctuary cities have come under heavy scrutiny in the wake of Kathryn Steinle’s death on July 1 in San Francisco. Authorities charged Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez with her killing. Lopez-Sanchez, who is in the U.S. illegally, has a history of felony convictions and has been deported five times.

Democrats accused House Republicans of bringing up the bill in part because of real estate mogul and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s focus on illegal immigration and sanctuary cities; they dubbed the bill the “Donald Trump Act.”

Judge tells it like it is in Arizona DACA drivers license appeal

Arizona continues to appeal Governor Jan Brewer’s denial of drivers licenses for DREAMers eligible under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, after losing in federal court.

Arizona was in front of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals last week, and Judge Harry Pregerson reached his limit with the state of Arizona.

Howard Fischer reports, Judge rips Arizona’s effort to withhold driver’s licenses:

Federal appellate judges grilled an attorney for the state Thursday over Arizona’s efforts to deny licenses to “dreamers,” with one suggesting it was nothing short of racism.

Judge Harry Pregerson pointed out that those in the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program have been driving legally since a trial judge ordered the state to reverse its ban and begin issuing them licenses in December.

“We know — at least I know — that no horrible thing has happened on the highways of Arizona since this went into effect,” he said during arguments here.

Crazy Uncle Joe Arpaio evades ‘Justice’ again

I was looking forward to Crazy Uncle Joe Arpaio facing two trials in August, but one case has now been settled, and the other may be delayed for an appeal. “Justice delayed is justice denied.”

The U.S. Department of Justice appears to have two classes of criminals whom it will not prosecute to conviction: the banksters of Wall Street, and a racist sheriff in the state of Maricopa. This is inexplicable to me.

I share Stephen Lemons’ disgust at this turn of events. DOJ Caves on Arpaio’s Abuse of Power, Again:

Once again, the U.S. Department of Justice has disappointed us when it comes to reining in Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s abuses of power, this time with a Neville Chamberlain-esque agreement that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved on Wednesday.

The board unanimously voted to settle on three areas of dispute in United States v. Maricopa County: worksite raids, how the sheriff’s office treats so-called Limited English Proficiency inmates in the jails, and Arpaio’s retaliatory tactics against his critics, political opponents and anyone else who gets in his way.
