The House adopted the Senate’s version of the budget and every single member of the Arizona Republican Caucus voted FOR it. The plan would add $5.8 trillion (and as much as $6.9 trillion) to the national debt over the next decade. With the vote at 216 – 214, every single one of those AZ votes was vital to passage. Speaker Mike Johnson had to vote (Speakers only vote to break a tie) and thus avoid a loss of this vote. Every single one of those AZ Congressmen could have STOPPED this madness with their own NO vote.

Mind you, this is the party whose members are always crowing about their fiscal prudence and fighting government deficits and balancing budgets (we know that deficits and debt and growth are ALL worse under Republican governance, yet the myth of Republican prudence persists). Yet because the Arizona delegation are fully in thrall to MAGA extremism, every one of those Arizona Congressmen (and, yes, they are ALL men, now) have voted to explode the deficit when we already have a national debt larger than the size of our entire annual GDP.

How do our AZMAGA Congress-critters justify this? No bloody idea. I will point out that they are hiding from their own constituents and refusing to do town halls – so maybe they have no plan to account for their actions. I listened in to Jaun Ciscomani’s recent tele-town hall – in which the staff gets to hand-select only the questions they like to address and ignore hard question like mine (“will Rep. Ciscomani vote to claw back Congressional authority to set tariffs from the President, who has proven he will abuse the definition of ‘national security’ to wholly run away with Congressional authority?”) – and he did not address the issue of balancing the Federal budget in any real way, and he certainly did not rule out financing tax cuts with new debt. Tucson Agenda was also on the call and did not find the format or the Congressman’s performance terribly impressive, either.
Why has the GOP/MAGA done this? To finance gigantic tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy and major corporations. That’s right. They have simply given up balancing the budget. They are simply flat-out financing tax breaks with new debt.
If you find this troubling, you might want to call your Congressman – especially if you are a fiscally conservative person who is alarmed by the reckless spending and wildly irresponsible actions of this presidential Administration which last week almost destroyed the long-term bond market for US Treasuries, and DID tank the equities markets.

I live in CD6 and did not receive the email invitation to Rep. Ciscomanis call until later in the day. I did not get a call to join.
