Arizona’s other three members of its Democratic Congressional Coalition have issued statements condemning the Big Billionaires First Act one year after its passage.
Representative Yassamin Ansari and Senator Mark Kelly had already commented on the first anniversary of the reverse Robin Hood legislation.
In a video statement, Representative Grijalva said:
“It’s been one year since Republicans passed Trump’s big beautiful bill, and they’re celebrating it. What exactly are they celebrating? The fact that over 473,000 Arizonans, including over 205,000 children, have lost SNAP benefits? Or is it the fact that this is the largest transfer of wealth from working families to billionaires in modern history? This bill gutted healthcare and ripped food assistance away from hungry families, seniors, veterans, and kids. All to deliver massive tax handouts to billionaires, wealthy corporations, and Trump’s billionaire friends.
Republicans didn’t pass this bill for working people. They passed it for the ultra-rich who already have so much and made everyone else pay the price. While people struggle to afford groceries, rent, and basic needs, Republicans are throwing a party for a law that rigged a system even more in favor of the wealthy.
Working people know exactly who this bill was written for, and it wasn’t for us.”
Senator Ruben Gallego’s office released a statement, similar in organization to Senator Kellys, where he commented:
“Right now, Arizonans are working harder than ever and getting less in return. And instead of trying to make life easier and cut costs, like they promised to do on day one, Trump and Republicans in Congress ripped away the services Arizonans rely on so they could give tax breaks to billionaires. The so-called One Big Beautiful Bill is stealing from the poor to give to the rich, and Arizonans are already feeling the pain.”
By the Numbers
Food Assistance:
- Over 450,000 Arizonans have lost SNAP benefits since last July. The 50% decline is the worst in the country.
- Food banks across Arizona have reported a surge in demand as Arizonans seek help putting food on the table.
Healthcare:
- Over 65,000 Arizonans dropped their ACA marketplace coverage – a 16% drop from 2025.
- 327,400 Arizonans are projected to lose Medicaid coverage by 2034.
- Arizona’s State Medicaid Fund is expected to decrease by nearly $43 billion – or almost 20% – by 2034.
Jobs and Energy Prices:
- Arizona has lost nearly 9,000 energy jobs and $3.6 billion in private investment.
- Following the elimination of EV tax credits in the OBBA, Lucid Motors, the largest private employer in Pinal County, announced it will be laying off hundreds of its Arizona employees.
- Arizonans are expected to spend $1,060 on electricity this summer, the most of any state and up nearly 14% from last year.
