Schapira announces exploratory committee for congress
TEMPE, ARIZ. – Statement from Arizona State Senate Democratic Leader David Schapira on exploratory committee announcement:
“Our country is facing some challenging times. Arizona has been hit hard by the recession. Our children bear the brunt with massive school budget cuts; the middle class is struggling, and too many people who are looking for a job simply can’t find one. To make matters worse, our congress is completely out of touch, choosing to focus on trivial and divisive issues while ignoring policies that could help us compete in a global economy. For these reasons, I am exploring a run for congress.”
“I was born and raised right here in the Valley, and I’ve served my community as a teacher, a school board member, a state representative, and now as a state senator. Over the years, I have knocked on tens of thousands of doors across this community to meet my neighbors and listen to their hopes for our community. As Democratic leader in the Senate, I have heard questions and concerns from across Arizona, and what I’ve learned is that Arizonans don’t want elected officials who focus on an extreme and narrow agenda. We need jobs, not partisan bickering. Arizonans want leaders who represent the values of their community and have a vision for the future.”
“Nobody likes what politics has become in this country, but I'm involved because my most important job is being a father. Just a few weeks ago, my second child was born. It got me thinking: our children’s future depends on the decisions that are made at the state Capitol and in Washington. I am not willing to stand by and let the very things that have made our country a great place to live disappear. My children and the next generation deserve to grow up in a community that offers all the opportunities that I had as a kid and more.”
