The worst attorney general in modern history has been confirmed with a single vote margin. Senator Cassidy of Louisiana, a medical doctor who already earned his own page in history by voting to confirm a vaccine conspiracy theorist as the head of the department that is critical to public health. There too he expressed “concerns.”
With Republicans almost entirely united in supporting Trump’s personal lawyer as the attorney for the country, the confirmation came down to that one Senator. And what was his reasoning behind backing someone that he recognized as a terrible nominee? “The choice is not between perfection and Mr. Blanche. It is between Mr. Blanche and another acting attorney general, who may not run the department effectively under President Trump.”
In other words, this one may be terrible, but maybe the next one would be worse.
Fantastic logic
We should consider applying this elsewhere in our lives! For instance:
- A new drug has a high risk of causing disease in children? Approve it, because the next one could be worse!
- An airplane is showing deficiencies that could cause crashes. No problem, a replacement might be worse!
- After Trump, the Republican Party nominates a Hannibal Lector type serial killer/cannibal. Might as well vote for him, since they might come up with someone worse!
Indeed, why push back against anything egregious, when some future thing might be even worse?
Another alternative
Here’s an idea: what if we elected better Senators who actually will vote to confirm qualified nominees and vote against unqualified ones? And we could even generalize to both chambers, and to all levels of government – vote for people who will vote for the best things for the public, and vote against the bad ones!
Maybe that’s too hard. But I hope not.

Talk about a cowardly abdication of the Senate’s role as a check on the Executive Branch. If the next one is worse then refuse to confirm him or her too! Until qualified nominees are presented. And make sure that the American people know the problem is Felonious Punk keeps sending unqualified incompetent bootlickers.
Clowns like Cassidy & Cornyn are banking on presidential support for a lucrative new gig as a pundit or corporate no show gig. They willingly forget Punk maliciously poisons the wells of those who deviate the slightest bit from his desires.
The lack of character in these Trump boot licking acolytes is nothing short of amazing. To continue this theme, in AZ CG 5 we will soon have sexting and threatening, out of state, sex god to us all, Mark Lamb, as its representative. Maybe he and his wife will have a threesome with Trump or possibly a four way if Melanie is included.
