Unlike her opponent, Vice President Harris has no problem packing a crowd into a campaign event.

This evening, over 7,000 people braved the still over 100-degree temperature to see and listen to the Democratic Nominee, chanting “We’re not going back” and “Kamala” at the Rawhide Event Center in Chandler as she presented a contrasting vision for the country compared to Donald Trump and encouraged everyone to vote as early as possible between now and November 5, 2024.

The event started with several introductory remarks including Gila River Indian Leader Stephen Roe Lewis, Arizona Democratic Party Chairperson Yolanda Bejarano, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.

In her remarks, Party Chairperson Bejarano said “The future of Democracy was at stake” and it was time for the American People to “Leave Donald Trump and the MAGA movement he represents,” telling the people, “We do not want to live in Donald Trump’s America.”

Calling the people gathered “The embodiment of the American Dream,” she also stressed that winning this election “would take all of us” to do their part to achieve victory.

In her comments to the crowd, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero told them “We have a choice to move forward with Vice President Harris and Governor Walz.”

Reminding the attendees that Trump wants to be a dictator on day one, Romero said “It was time to turn the page. It’s time to say no more…Arizona is the Blue Wall of the Southwest. The blue wall that will stop Donald Trump and J.D. Vance.”

At the end of her speech, Mayor Romero suggested that each person there this evening should go out and make sure five other people they know vote, finishing with “When we vote, we win. When we fight, we win.”

Saying “Arizona loves Kamala Harris,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego told the crowd that Vice President Harris and Governor Walz want the same American Dream future for all of us where “Human rights are protected” and “It is cooler to read books than ban them.”

Telling the gathered that Trump offers “Scare tactics” while Harris offers “Hope,” Gallego said, “Arizona is the battleground of all Battlegrounds and the race will be decided right here.”

As she took the podium, Vice President Kamala Harris said it was good to be back in Arizona and with the Gila River Indian Community.

Saying “We are 26 days down the home stretch,” the Vice President reminded the audience that this “Was a tight race” and “We are the underdog.”

After taking a moment to send sympathies to the victims of Hurricane Milton in Florida, she took her first jab at Trump for refusing to debate her again, calling his decision “A weak move.”

Telling the crowd that there was enough information out there to contrast Mr. Trump’s vision to take the country into the past compared to her optimistic plans for the future and a New Way Forward, the Vice President, said she would “Always put Middle-Class families first,” listed some of her objectives as President including:

  • Helping to reduce the cost of living.
  • Protect reproductive freedom.
  • Expand Medicare to assist ‘sandwich’ families where married couples have to care for their parents and children at the same time.
  • Keep the country safe and secure while also honoring the nation’s military veterans.
  • The Opportunity Economy Agenda of helping first-time homebuyers and small businesses.
  • Expanding the Child Tax Credit including $6,000 for the first year of a baby’s life.

Contrasting her vision with Trump, Vice President Harris said:

“He has no plans for how he would address the needs of the American people. He is only focused on himself. It’s time to turn the page. America is ready for a New Way Forward. We are ready for a new generation of optimistic leadership for our country. That is why Democrats Republicans and independents are supporting our campaign. They know we need a president that works for all the American people. We know we have so much more in common than what separates us. We’re tired of those who would divide us and point fingers at each other.

She then mocked Trump’s Project 2025, repeating the line “I can’t believe they put that in writing,” and telling the audience that if Trump returned and was able to implement it, that would mean more tax cuts for the wealthy, a twenty percent sales tax on the working and middle class, the expansion of the Trump Abortion Bans, and the end of the Affordable Care Act (where she took a moment to praise the late John McCain for saving on the Senate floor) even though the failed former President only, after eight years has “the concepts of a plan” that would take away health insurance from 45 million Americans.

Harris then got the crowd going by saying “We’re not going back.”

Saying “Ours is the fight for the future,” she ridiculed Trump and the people he appointed to the Supreme Court that overturned Roe v Wade, calling what they did “immoral” and no government “Should tell her what she can do.” She called for Arizonans to pass the pro-reproductive freedom Proposition 139. She also vowed to sign the restoration of Roe v Wade if Congress sends it to her.

The Vice President also said they were fighting for other freedoms like “To be safe from gun violence. For freedom to love who you love openly and with pride. The freedom to breathe clean air and drink clean water.”

Repeating that the stakes were higher this year than in 2016 and 2020, the Vice President warned of the peril to the country if Trump, who has said he would like to be a dictator on day one, came back to power. She told the crowd that any person who says, like Trump did, that the Constitution should be terminated “Has no business standing behind the seal of the President of the United States.”

Harris closed with a call to action for people to take advantage of their power as voters, stating:

“Generation of Americans before us have led the price to fight for freedom. The time is now in our hands. We know what is at stake. And we love our country.”

The people chanted “USA, USA, USA” following Harris’s sentence about love for our country.

To fight for the ideals of our country. And for the promise of America.”

“You are in Arizona. Early voting has already started. You could cast a ballot any day between now and November 5th. Now is the time to make a plan to vote. If you received your ballot in the mail, please do not wait…We’ve got to be energized and organized and mobilized.”

“Your vote is your voice and your voice is your power. Are you ready to make your voices heard Arizona? Do we believe in Freedom? Do we believe in opportunity? Do we believe in the promise of America? Are we ready to fight for it? And when we fight we win.”
