January 6 MAGA/QAnon Insurrection: Was The Call Coming From Inside The House?

Freshman Republican Illinois congresswoman Mary Miller was a speaker at the “Moms of America” rally a day before the seditious insurrection at the Capitol. Freshman lawmaker hit with colleagues’ fury after Hitler comments:

During a rally for the conservative Moms for America [a day before the seditious insurrection], Rep. Mary Miller, an Illinois Republican said conservatives would lose unless “we win the hearts and minds of our children. This is the battle. Hitler was right on one thing. She said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future.’”

Miller, the wife of Illinois GOP state Rep. Chris Miller, issued a statement Friday saying “I sincerely apologize for any harm my words caused” and she “[regrets] using a reference to one of the most evil dictators in history.” But she blasted critics for “intentionally trying to twist my words.”

The classic non-apology apology. You’re on video, lady! You clearly said it.

When Congress reconvened after [the siege of the Capitol], Miller voted to object to Arizona’s Electoral College votes.

Now we’re learning more about her husband, Illinois GOP state Rep. Chris Miller. The Independent reports Truck parked at Capitol on day of riot belongs to husband of GOP congresswoman who quoted Hitler:

A truck parked outside of the US Capitol bearing a sticker of a far-right militia group on the day of the 6 January riot belongs to the husband of a freshman Republican representative best known for quoting Adolf Hitler.

The truck, which The Daily Beast reported is owned by Chris Miller, the husband of Illinois representative Mary Miller, featured a sticker for the far-right militia movement, The Three Percenters.

The militia group, which takes its name from the false claim that only 3 per cent of US colonists fought at any one time during the American Revolution, advocates for gun ownership and a resistance to the federal government.

Robert Gieswein, who prosecutors claim is affiliated to the group, was indicted on several felony charges following the riot, alongside more than 200 others. Five people died and several more were injured on that day as a mob of pro-Trump supporters breached the Capitol.

The pickup truck bearing the militia group’s logo raised eyebrows on the day of the insurrection, as it was parked close to the Capitol in an area that is inaccessible to normal traffic.

The truck was first linked to Ms Miller, who began her term on 3 January 2021, on Thursday evening by the @capitolhunters Twitter account, which is reviewing photos and videos from the riot to identify people involved in the insurrection.

The account noted that the truck was parked in an area reserved for members of Congress and other senior figures, and asked its followers to help identify its owner.

Internet sleuths quickly discovered that the truck bore the same number plate as a vehicle owned by the congresswoman’s husband and is the same make and model as one seen in images for Ms Miller’s campaign last year.

The Millers have also posed for pictures in front of the truck, according to The Daily Beast. The Three Percenter sticker was not visible in any images of the car prior to the riot on 6 January.

Following the initial reports, Mr. Miller confirmed to The Daily Beast on Thursday that the truck belonged to him, but pleaded ignorance about the militia group.

When in trouble, deny, deflect and blame someone else:

“Army friend gave me decal. Thought it was a cool decal. Took it off because of negative pub,” he claimed in an email on Thursday evening.

Mr. Miller added that he has “never” been a member of the militia, and said that he “didn’t know anything about 3% till fake news started this fake story and read about them”.

The Independent has contacted Ms. Miller’s office for comment but did not receive a reply before publication.

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) on Thursday said federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., are “reviewing the footage” to see if members of Congress gave Capitol tours to rioters shortly before the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection. Tim Ryan: Prosecutors reviewing video of Capitol tours given by lawmakers before riot:

Ryan, chairman of the House subcommittee with oversight of the Capitol Police, told reporters that accusations surrounding lawmakers allegedly giving “reconnaissance tours” to rioters before the attack are now “in the hands of the U.S. attorney here in D.C.

Ryan told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow later that evening that he could not elaborate on the investigation.

“The U.S. attorney has the investigation going on now. I’m sure they’re looking at the footage … so that’s in their hands now,” Ryan said. “Anybody who’s dealt with the U.S. attorney during an investigation — it’s like a black box, you don’t really know what’s going on but you know it’s happening.”

Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.), a former Navy pilot, said in the aftermath of the riot that she had witnessed colleagues leading people on tours of the Capitol in the days leading up to the attack, calling the walkthroughs “reconnaissance” for the siege.

Sherrill is not alone in her concerns about security at the Capitol complex in the lead-up to the assault.

A coalition of more than 30 House Democrats has called for an investigation into “suspicious” tours, saying either they or their aides witnessed “an extremely high number of outside groups in the complex, on Jan. 5, which is unusual given that public tours of the Capitol ended in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.”

They also wrote that some of the visitors encountered by lawmakers “appeared to be associated” with the “Stop the Steal” rally that was held at the White House Ellipse the next day, when Congress was certifying President Biden’s election victory over former President Trump.

“Members of the group that attacked the Capitol seemed to have an unusually detailed knowledge of the layout of the Capitol Complex. The presence of these groups within the Capitol Complex was indeed suspicious,” the lawmakers wrote.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) suggested that any lawmakers who are found to have assisted in the attack may be criminally charged.

As part of this investigation, The Intercept reports FBI SEIZED CONGRESSIONAL CELLPHONE RECORDS RELATED TO CAPITOL ATTACK:

WITHIN HOURS OF the storming of the Capitol on January 6, the FBI began securing thousands of phone and electronic records connected to people at the scene of the rioting — including some related to members of Congress, raising potentially thorny legal questions.

Using special emergency powers and other measures, the FBI has collected reams of private cellphone data and communications that go beyond the videos that rioters shared widely on social media, according to two sources with knowledge of the collection effort.

In the hours and days after the Capitol riot, the FBI relied in some cases on emergency orders that do not require court authorization in order to quickly secure actual communications from people who were identified at the crime scene. Investigators have also relied on data “dumps” from cellphone towers in the area to provide a map of who was there, allowing them to trace call records — but not content — from the phones.

The cellphone data includes many records from the members of Congress and staff members who were at the Capitol that day to certify President Joe Biden’s election victory. The FBI is “searching cell towers and phones pinging off cell sites in the area to determine visitors to the Capitol,” a recently retired senior FBI official told The Intercept. The data is also being used to map links between suspects, which include members of Congress, they also said. (Capitol Police are reportedly investigating whether lawmakers helped rioters gain access to the Capitol as several Democrats have alleged they did, though Republican officials deny this.)

The Justice Department has publicly said that its task force includes senior public corruption officials. That involvement “indicates a focus on public officials, i.e. Capitol Police and members of Congress,” the retired FBI official said.

Federal authorities have used the emergency orders in combination with signed court orders under the so-called pen/trap exception to the Stored Communications Act to try to determine who was present at the time that the Capitol was breached, the source said. In some cases, the Justice Department has used these and other “hybrid” court orders to collect actual content from cellphones, like text messages and other communications, in building cases against the rioters.

The collection effort has been met with little resistance from telecom providers asked to turn over voluminous data on the activity that day. “No one wants to be on the wrong side of the insurrection,” a source involved in the collection effort said. “This is now the scene of the crime.”

The FBI declined to comment on any of the specific investigative tools it is using in the January 6 investigation except to say that the bureau has received more than 200,000 tips to date from the public in response to its request for help in identifying rioters. “As with all our operations, the FBI conducts itself according to our legal requirements and established policies,” the bureau said in a statement. The Justice Department also declined to comment, referring any questions on investigative methods to the FBI.

Any member of Congress who either aided and abetted, or gave aid and comfort to the MAGA/QAnon seditious insurrectionists, should immediately be expelled from Congress and be prosecuted for Rebellion or insurrection – 18 U.S. Code § 2383.
